My name is Tom. I’m 5 and in Kindergarten this year. I started Junior Jiu Jitsu this year. I really like Jiu Jitsu, it is fun. I have made lots of friends and i feel a lot stronger. My teachers’ names are Dylan and Liam. They are nice and I have learnt how to do lots of new things i didn't think i could do before. My favourite things at Jiu Jitsu are throwing, playing poison ball and meeting new people.

As a Remedial Massage Therapist I joined VT1 Gym to increase my strength and fitness. I also enrolled my son in Junior Jiu Jitsu as he is small for his age. The Women's only kickboxing classes are a fantastic cardiovascular workout which has also taught me uncomplicated, highly effective self defence. There are women of all fitness levels and ages in the class and we are encouraged to train at our own pace. Within just a few lessons I was able to see my body toning and fitness increasing. My son's confidence has shot thought he roof and his school teachers have commented on his increased ability to concentrate and enthusiasm in class. Our exceptional instructors, Dylan and Liam are very experienced ensure all classes are fun and interesting with none of the ‘egos’ that you find in most gyms. The instructors and members of VT-1 Gym are all very helpful and encouraging and I have made some fantastic friends. I highly recommend VT1 Gym to anyone interested in self defence, increasing strength and fitness while having lots of fun at the same time.

"I am a retired pharmacist (aged 61) who suffers from Parkinson's Disease and diabetes. I need to keep all my muscles toned and joints moving as well as having aerobic fitness and weight control. When I was going to a regular gym, I became bored. I was also going to a dedicated boxing gym but it was too far away and was not well run.
When I heard that VT1 gym had opened, I decided to give it a go. Dylan and Liam eager to take on this "oldie" as a challenge. I have now been going 4 times a week to the Muay Thai classes since October 2005. I am not the best in the class as I recognize my limitations, but the other guys and girls are very tolerant and supportive and we all have fun. Liam and Dylan are excellent instructors with decades of martial arts experience and run a disciplined but extremely friendly gym. The gym is clean and bad language is not tolerated. They discourage ego-trippers and encourage personal achievement. One trains at one's own pace.
Gradings are held periodically as are social functions. Whilst members are encouraged to compete in competitions to gain experience and confidence, no one is pushed. As for me, I attribute my mobility and excellent diabetes control to the exercise I do. My doctors tell me to keep on doing whatever I am doing. I can thoroughly recommend the VT1 gym to anyone, but particularly the "oldies" like me!"

"VT1-Gym's experienced staff and friendly environment have allowed me to excel in the learning of Martial Arts. Training there has given me an opportunity to learn at a comfortable pace. This has helped me excel in competition and increased my confidence in my abilities. The social nature of the gym, free from the political hierarchy in that of traditional martial arts makes training a delight. I highly recommend anyone wanting to make new friends, get fit, and learn how to defend themselves to come and train with us, I'm sure they wont be disappointed."

"My name is Woong and I have been training Muay Thai at VT1 for a year. I initially decided to start Muay Thai because I needed a hobby and my friends wanted to join the gym together. I have always been quite active but once I started working fulltime I started being very inactive and started eating bad food. I had always been very active till this point and so watching my weight hasn’t been my real concern. In a period of 1.5 years my weight suddenly ballooned and next thing, I was very out of shape and had a beer gut. This lead to me deciding to try Muay Thai.
When I first started training I weighed 85 kg and was immediately out of breath. I had a goal of trying to shed some of this weight and after consulting with Dylan and Liam, I changed my diet around to see what the result would be. My program had strict guidelines, but still allowed me to have fun on the weekends. I trained 3 to 4 times a week and decided to buy myself a proper scale to see how much progress I could make.
In first month I lost 7 kg. After another 4 months, I have lost a total of 15 kg and now my current weight is 63kg which is where it should be. I was amazed by this progress as I didn’t have to starve myself and still occasionally socially drank and ate junk food some weekends. I now don’t have many restrictions on what I eat and still can manage this current weight. I haven’t felt this fit in a long time and a lot stronger than I was before but most importantly, I feel great all the time. It even led to me quitting smoking to further improve my health.
Dylan and Liam have kept me motivated by setting new personal goals for me and I have recently competed in my first fight at under 62.5kg. They have not only been martial art coaches but also great friends in guiding me to getting me back into shape. I also had great support from everyone at the gym who are close friends rather than just people you train with. I feel great and have more belief in myself as a person.
The only downside to this whole experience was the fact that I had to buy a whole new wardrobe but I guess we can’t have everything in life.
